In May this year we were in Bali. We spend our last day visiting a temple and a visit to the Bali Treetop adventure park. This park is kind of an obstacle course high in the trees instead of on the ground. There were several levels, some fairly easy, others more like a hell of a challenge but it was really a lot of fun. All shots are made with the go pro mounted on our head, some parts are filmed by David, some parts are filmed by me. As we were also visiting a waterfall and some temples on the same day, David took his camera bag with him but as someone tried to steal his camera the first time we were in Bali, he didn’t want to leave the bag on the ground so he decided to start the obstacle course with his camera backpack on. Personally I think he is crazy but he was too stubborn to listen and didn’t want to leave it behind as he was afraid someone would try to steal it again. On one of the most difficult obstacles, several ropes hanging down only attached from the top with a loop for your feet in the bottom which needed to be crossed, he found out that it was not a good idea. This obstacle was already hell to pass without any heavy backpack so it kept pulling him backward loosing balance. He made it to the end but after that, he had no power in his arms anymore. He was able to make a jump and catch a net (similar as in the last shot of the video) but then he had to go down to put the backpack away. Luckily our driver was still waiting right next to the track and he took care of the backpack. David then made some shots of me following from the ground to let his arms recover before joining me again. On the hardest level, we had to make a really high jump on a sling and catch another net. I was pretty scared but when you stand up there in the tree, you don’t really have another choice to go down so I had to jump. I catched the net but didn’t have a good grip and the heavy rope pulled me backwards. One of my feet went through the net and when I fell back, it kind of got stuck for a second so I twisted around completely and my harness pulled really tight. I ended up with a browsed ankle and two burn marks on the inside of my tights. The next day was our flight home so David treated the burn woonds with healing cream and bandages, it helped for the pain but it was very annoying and with such a long flight, the bandage starting moving and itching which was very uncomfortable. It took a couple of months for the scares to be completely gone. Lesson learned, next time no hot pants but long trousers ?
